BEIJING, Aug 7 (Ti Post) —— China"s experiential education product orders surged more than 30 times in this year"s summer vacation compared to last year, according to data from online travel agency platform Ctrip.
As the tourism market recovers after the COVID-19 pandemic, experiential education has become a popular choice for Chinese parents and children.
The market chaos has also gradually appeared at the same time. It is hard to get tickets for museums and other venues. The quotas to take a tour of Peking University and Tsinghua University are sold at high prices. Experiential education products featuring traveling only without learning are quite common. A survey shows that 88% of consumers find the costs of such experiential education too high, and fees and charges untransparent. 71% of consumers complained that there were problems with food and accommodation.
The experiential education market is in full swing. Searches for “experiential education” in online travel platform Ctrip have surged by 203% since July, and attention to related products in the Shanghai region rose by 183% compared to the previous year. The clout of "experiential education" on Tongcheng Travel in mid-July was higher than that in the previous week. Searches for the same phrase on the Mafengwo website increased by 133% in mid-July compared with last week. A large number of parents and children swamped cultural places such as museums.
Consumers are paying more attention to experiential education in 2023, and the products are more diversified. The products include visits to cities rich in historical resources such as Beijing, Xi"an, and Nanjing, trips to museums, and science and technology museums to enjoy national treasures and cultural relics, and chances of experiencing the application of advanced manufacturing products.
The price of experiential education products also varies greatly due to the different types of activities. The education package often includes items such as food, lodging, chartered buses during the tour, tickets and insurance but does not include round-trip tickets. Most of the domestic tour products sampled by TiPost is almost 10,000 yuan. A month-long military training camp price is the most expensive at 7,980 yuan, followed by history and humanities products, whose price is up to 6,980 yuan.
Behind the fast-growing enterprises in the experiential education market is capital. According to the statistics of TiPost, a total of 73 financing events occurred in the field of experiential education from 2012 to August 1, 2023, raising a total of 5.69 billion yuan. In 2017, the field of experiential education had 15 financing events, which was the largest number of financing events in the past decade. In 2021, the field received 1.254 billion yuan in investment, which was the largest amount of capital in the past decade.
